Halloween is becoming bigger and bigger each year. Give your offerings a refresh this coming October, and make it a seasonal celebration to remember.
With our 100 years’ experience working with bakeries, manufacturers and foodservice operators, we know just what you need to be on-trend, so read on for inspiration!
Start early!
We’ve noticed a growing sense that Halloween is no longer the one-day event that it used to be, but something that is celebrated throughout the month of October – driven by social media, and American trends travelling over to the UK. Whilst it’s a celebration driven more by a younger demographic, there is research that suggests consumer spend is growing* – so there’s never been a better time to take advantage of the season and expand your menu with sensationally spooky bakes.
Creepy Colour ways
Black and orange colourings will never go out of style at Halloween, but we’re seeing an increased use of pastel greens and purples to allow bakers to produce more detailed and creative designs! What’s exciting about Halloween, is anything goes!
Fab-BOO-lous Showstoppers
3D cakes, we know, are back in style – from bats, ghosts, pumpkins or mummies – get creative with fondant, Rice Krispies and marshmallows to bring texture, and stability, to your cake designs.
Burn Away cakes took social media by storm earlier this year, with some designs amassing over 50 million views alone! For Halloween, we expect this sweet ‘magic trick’ cake to make a re-appearance, as it’s sure to be a showstopper.
Time to Pumkin- Spice Things Up
With the coming of Halloween, we also see more autumnal flavours in bakery offerings. Pumpkin Spice has become a cult classic, but spiced apple is an excellent alternative and works throughout the autumn and winter seasons too.
Best-sellers such as brownies, muffin and cupcakes can also be given a gory makeover. From creepy decorations to the experiential, why not delight your customers by introducing an element of theatre? We’ve loved seeing bakers offer DIY injectable jam or fruit fillings into their cupcakes using syringes for a devilishly delightful treat!
Fang-tastic Party Treats
Halloween offerings don’t have to be limited to eating-in experiences! Whilst adults are less likely to go out trick-and-treating, there’s plenty of opportunity to profit from at-home celebrations too, with themed parties growing in popularity. Why not offer bake-to-order cakes and multi-serve bakes to attract celebrating consumers?
Our final tip? Use a supplier who can cater to all your baking needs. With Kluman & Balter, our extensive range of ingredients and cake mixes mean there’s no limit to the creations you can whip up, with a high-quality result every time! We also offer mixes suitable for consumers on alternative diets, from vegan and egg-free mixes meaning your customers don’t have to miss out this Halloween party season.
